Using a what!? - HCI (Human computer interface)

we use a WIMP! - Windows Icons Menu Pointer

Spell Checker!

Spell Checker has a built in dictionary
Puts a red line under misspelled words
It checks if each word is in the dictionary and if not puts a red line

1. you can ignore the spelling
2. add it to the dictionary
3. can choose from the words the dictionary has

are they always correct???

NO!!!! they are not great with names! surnames! Sheikh, Giblin, Farquharson ...

Word Processing

There are four types of Text Alignment (also sometimes called Justification)

1) Center
2) Left
3) Right
4) Fully Justified

Three ways to format text

1) Underline
2) Italic
3) Bold

Sequential Vs Direct Access

Sequential Access

* Sequential you cannot skip, must go through every memory location in turn to get to the one you need
* magnetic tape (My britney spears tape!)

Direct/Random Access
* you can skip directly to the location you reqiure
* CDs, external hard drives
